At Raven & Gryphon Fine Books we specialize in fine and scarce books in all price ranges, with a particular focus on illustrated, photography, and art books and history. We currently have over 3,500 books in stock.
Our knowledge and passion for books and collecting enables us to provide advice to help our customers find a specific book, help build their library, or get advice on the perfect gift for the book lover on their gift list.
Below, four books that are representative of our stock.
Marc Chagall: Origins and Paths, edited by Roland Doschka; Prestel, Munich, 1998 – $60.
There are many books featuring Chagall, but what makes this one unique is that the featured works,
chosen from his estate and renowned private collections, are presented for the first time in this volume.
225 Years in Chester Basin 1760-1985, by E. M. Backman, C. Fitch and R. E. Eldridge, published to celebrate
that anniversary – $100. It isn’t surprising that we’ve had at least three different histories of Chester, but this book is the third history we’ve had on much-smaller Chester Basin.
Sketches & Traditions of the Northwest Arm, Halifax, N.S., by John Regan; McAlpine Publishing, Halifax,
1908 – $100. This is the first edition. The history includes information on the clubs that dot the shoreline,
with a focus on the then brand- new Waegwoltic Club. There is also a fold-out panoramic view of
the Arm.
Sea, Mark Laita; Abrams, New York; in association with PQ Blackwell, Auckland, New Zealand, 2011 – $300.
I have handled many beautiful books over the years on all subjects, and this book just might be the most spectacular of all. Not a white page in this book: stunning photos of the ocean’s inhabitants are presented on black pages. Laita’s sensual imagery reveals the extraordinary colours, textures, and personalities of
the sea’s incredible and unusual residents. What a stunning, special gift this sea treasure would be!
