{"id":803,"date":"2026-01-13T15:46:30","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T19:46:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hkn.b42.myftpupload.com\/?p=803"},"modified":"2026-01-13T15:46:30","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T19:46:30","slug":"young-sailor-loved-representing-canada-at-his-first-international-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/independent-white-fish.learmonthmarketing.com\/?p=803","title":{"rendered":"Young sailor loved representing Canada at his first international competition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In December,13-year-old Asher Davis, a resident of Hubbards and a sailor at the Hubbards Sailing Club, got to compete as one of the 15 members of Team Canada at the Pan American Optimist Sailing Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina, held from December 10 to 17.<br>He was the only member of the Canadian team from Atlantic Canada. This was Asher\u2019s first international<br>competition. He qualified based on his summer 2025 results at the Canadian Nationals, ranking 29th in the country through the Canadian Optimist Dinghy Association (CODA). That ranking earned him an invitation to participate in Buenos Aires last month.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"283\" height=\"355\" src=\"https:\/\/independent-white-fish.learmonthmarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-36.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-805\" style=\"width:243px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/independent-white-fish.learmonthmarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-36.png 283w, https:\/\/independent-white-fish.learmonthmarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/image-36-239x300.png 239w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 283px) 100vw, 283px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sailing out in his Optimist dinghy to the<br>racecourse in Buenos Aires.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><br>Asher finished 70th overall out of 122 boats, with a best overall finish of 11th in a single race. He was eighth in Silver Fleet and was the fifth-fastest Canadian.<br>Before heading to Argentina, Asher says the thing he most looked forward to was \u201csailing in a new country against international competitors.\u201d There were some surprises, especially, he says, \u201chow difficult the current and local conditions were.\u201d He adds, \u201cThe best parts were the excitement of the races, competing against the other kids, and the high-quality coaching.\u201d<br>He has been sailing since the age of 6, encouraged by his dad, a former sailing instructor in Hubbards.
